ARTISTIC CONCEPT
This is a solo work sophia tweed ahmad has been developing over the past two months.
From sophia -"this piece expresses waves of emotions through ancestral communion, lost conversations, gathering of stories and memories, deciphering what is mine or what is someone else's i carry and wish to continue or wish to release. it is a prayer and a glimpse into my world. i will be debuting a song i have composed that comes from the heart."
This is a TWO PART showing.
The performance is followed promptly by sophia requesting audience members to either
1) immerse themselves on the floor for a guided meditation/score and move their bodies if they feel called OR
2) step out into the lobby and another facilitator will be present to play the guided score from a speaker where audience members are welcome to just sit and listen / draw or write (materials provided).
This performance is presented by New Expressive Works as part of the 2021-22 Curated Residency Series. For the last 18 months, choreographers and dance makers have been invited by NEW to co-design residencies that support their artistic practices, on their own terms. Through this collaborative model of providing a nourishing space and place for their creativity, N.E.W. supports our independent artist community’s sustainability.
